The mission of Longtermtrends is to make financial markets accessible through easy-to-use charts, empowering you to spot trends and stay informed.
I'm Silvan, the founder, and my journey with Longtermtrends began in 2016 after watching YouTube videos (like this one) full of interesting charts. I wished there was a website to summarize and automatically update these charts. Having studied Accounting & Finance and having worked with software teams before, I felt like I had all the resources to execute on the idea. Initially, I envisioned Longtermtrends as my personal dashboard of charts that I wanted to monitor and I have been expanding it ever since.
Over the years, the charts on Longtermtrends have been featured in esteemed publications such as the Financial Times.
On Longtermtrends you can expect a wide range of charts covering economic metrics and financial markets, including stocks, precious metals, commodities, FX rates, bonds, and cryptocurrencies. We often utilize "ratios" to compare the relative performance of dollar-denominated assets, effectively eliminating inflation effects. Many pages feature information on the correlation between assets and how well they'd fit in a diversified portfolio.
To accompany the charts, each page comes with an interpretation, data sources and links to further information. Our primary data sources include Federal Reserve Economic Data (St. Louis Fed), Yahoo Finance, Nasdaq Data Link, MSCI, and Stooq. You can find a comprehensive list of data sources for financial markets here.
As mentioned in the terms of use, although the information on this website were obtained from sources believed to be reliable, we can of course not guarantee its accuracy, validity, timeliness or completeness.
As the subscriber list shows, the Longtermtrends audience includes many academics, investors, and finance professionals. The site ranks highly on Google on many popular keywords, such as "stocks vs gold chart", "bitcoin vs gold chart", or "home price income", the last of which is particularly interesting for home buyers.
The overwhelming majority of users come from the United States, followed by other English speaking countries, Germany, South Korea, and India.
For me personally, Longtermtrends has always been a passion project that demanded enormous amounts of time and money. To this day, all revenue has been directly reinvested into the site, mostly to pay software developers. If you find the site helpful, please consider donating.
Longtermtrends collaborates with trusted brands that align with our values. If you're interested in reaching our audience, please fill in this Sponsorship Form and we'll set up a call.
